KOWLOON TRAFFIC PROBLEMS Bitter Complaint At Lack Of Mainland Licensing Offices Disregard For Rules Of The Road
With more fast-moving vehicles of all types on the road than ever before in its history, it is little wonder that Hong Kong has a traffic pro- blem. Rules and regulations are hopelessly out of date, there are many new motorists on the road (some with only the most elementary knowledge of the terrain and the geography of of streets) and the Traffic Department lias been handicapped by the lack of anything inore than a handful of trained personnel. The recent institution of a Traffic Advisory Board will, it is hoped, at long last put matters on a properly organised basis. It will have pro- blems to solve, some relatively simple, some extremely complex and depending on the dis- covery of suitable compromises. As an exam- ple of some of these problems there are the re- cent suggestions put forward to the Commis. sioner of Police by the Traffic-Sub-Committee of the Kowloon "Residents' Association and which presumably will be considered by the Board at an early date.
