Government

Shanghai, July 27,

Non-political minded Chinese merchants, seeking a chance to see Lt. Gen. Albert C. Wedemeyer to tell their gripes, are expected to join in Am- erican business charges of discrimination and suggest what American aid can do, so they may again be allowed to work peacefully and quietly "in pursuit of legitimate profit." Independent Chinese merchants approached by the United Press said today that they did not believe that the Chinese Chamber of Com- merce or guilds could represent their opinions in view of the political connections of these organizations with the Kuomintang.

They hurriedly pointed out, however, that they represent no party, certainty nane in favour of the Communists.
