East China Front, July 4. A total of 184,000 Chiang Kai-shek's troops were killed or captured on the Shantung battle front during the first six months of this year, according to a war communique issued by the H.Q. of the “East China People's Liberation Army." Around 2,000 artillery pieces were captured by the People's Liberation Army. The_communique announces that during the first 20 days of January, the Reorganized 26th Division, 51st Division, and one regiment of the 52nd Division and the 1st Motorized Column, wêre annihilated south of Linyi, frustrating Chang's plan of a quick advance and forcing him to change his tactics to con- centrated attacks on vital points.
