PRICE CONTROL ROUND-UP

Twenty Shopkeepers Prosecuted In Kowloon Court

"Plenty of Oranges

For Christmas

The campaign against shopkeepers who attempt to sell goods above the controlled price is show- ing definite progress, Mr. W. H. Nolloth, who is in charge of price control inspection in Kow- loon, told the Magistrate, Mr. W. H. Latimer in reply to a question in Kowloon Court yesterday,

The occasion was a further batch of summonses i

against some 20 shopkeepers for overcharging on condensed milk, cigarettes, sanitary nap- kins, electric light bulbs, soap, shoe polish and oranges.

The Magistrate said that he would impose a fine of $25 for failure to affix price tags and would impose fines on the other summons for overcharging after having given regard to the margin of overcharge and the size of the shop.

Nearly all of the defendants pleaded in mitigation that the goods had been sold by a foki or by someone else while they were away. One blamed it on an old woman and another on his little brother.

"In that case, you will have to pay the fine for your little brother!" the Magistrate re- plied.
