Revealing Figures Of Chinese Trade

Irrefutable evidence that the recent Government measures devaluation of the Chinese dollar

and abolition of export taxes have not pro-New York duced the desired results of boosting Chinese exports and reducing the volume of imports is contained in the September Customs tradė figures.

During the month in question, imports of foreign goods into Shanghai nearly doubled compared with August, while there was no correspond- ing increase in exports. According to Chinese Customs statistics, the total value of imports in September amount to CN$222,606,000,0000 (about £17,000,000) compared with CN$Ï17,- 954,817,000 (about £9,100,000) in August. At the same time, exports valued at only CN$53,163,000,000 (about £4,000,000) "left the country a rise of scarcely ten per cent com- pared with the preceding month.
