REDUCTION IN ELECTRIC LIGHT RATES ANNOUNCED

War losses amounting to $5,225,620,84 as a result of the Japanese occupation, were announced by Mr. II. V. Wilkinson, presiding at the 53rd Ordinary Yearly Meeting of Shareholders of the Hong Kong Electric Co., Ltd., held at the Company's office yesterday.

Mr. Wilkinson, who gave à comprehensive review of the Company's war damages and of replace- ments now being made, announced that as from Oct. 1, cost of current would be reduced from 260 per cent. to 200 per cent, plus 1941 level. He added he had hopes of a further re- duction in the near future
