FOOTBALL SEASON OPENS TO-DAY WITH 15 GAMES.

SAPPER MILES AND MIDDLESEX AND

IRON BUX MEET

"Sapper" Miles and "Iron" Bux-two giants of the past In the local boxing world-had, a very memorable reunion yesterday, brought about by somewhat unusual circumstances.

Each had read about the other In articles which ap peared in these columna during the week, and it was, there- fore, not unnatural that each one requested us to put him in touch with the other. The result was the renewal of a friend- ship that had remained steadfast over 30 years.

And even at that, we only just managed It, for the "Sapper" is leaving the Colony this morning after 1 short visit. It is a strange coincidence that exactly 33 years ago, to the very day, "Sapper" Miles first get foot on these shores. Further cause for celebration was that September 27 happens to be the anniversary of his birthday.

Was It any wonder then that when, last reen, these friends were setting off for "the jolflest ́reunion in the history of the ring," and woe betide anybody who "crossed their pathe"?

RECORDS EXPECTED TO GO AT COLONY SWIMMING MEETING

The high standard of swimming set up at Victoria Recreation Club on Thursday, opening day of the Colony Championships, promises to be maintained if not bettered this evening when the Second Day's programme will be carried out.

THE LOCAL FOOTBALL SEASON OFFICIALLY OPENS THIS WEEK-END WITH A RECORD PROGRAMME OF 21 GAMES.

Few new players will be seen in action among the senior teams, the composition of the teams being in most cases the same as last season. In the junior games, however, several newcom- ers of ability will be seen in action.

The best game should be at Sookunpoo, where Middlesex meet Eastern, and there should not be much difference in the scores at the end. Middle- sex will have livey in the centre-forward position, and this should add strength to the "Diehards' "at- tack. Eastern will be without S. T. Tsao in their attack, and his place will be taken by Lau Fook- chuen.
