STOP PRESS

"The present temporary lull in activities in this part of the world is not one for sleep," declared Sir Robert Brooke- Popham, Commander - in - Chief Far East, in an interview in Rangoon yesterday..

1

Sir Robert emphasised that the lull, which was fortunate should be utilised to obtaini "full value from the time that is yet ours."

The C-in-C is in Rangoon following an extensive tour. by air and road of Burma's defences. He "patted on the back" those. responsible. for the new aerodromes, and: said those he visited were well- constructed and well-planned while the roads were better than he had anticipated. He emphasised, however, that considerable improvements were still needed in defence works and training as such was necessary, to have, a de trimental effect on anyone thinking of attacking the country, and thus secure the peace and security of Burma. -Reuter.
