"REFEREE'S" EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH LEE WALTONG, CAPTAIN AND

LEADING GOAL-SCORER OF THE SOUTH CHINA TEAM,

SOUTH CHINA FOOTBALL TEAM RETURNED TO THE COLONY YESTERDAY AFTER A VERY SUCCESSFUL TOUR OF MALAYA, WHERE THEY NOT ONLY WON THE MAJORITY OF THEIR GAMES AND ENHANCED THEIR OWN POPULARITY, BUT WERE INSTRU- MENTAL IN RAISING LARGE SUMS FOR BRITISH AND CHINESE WAR CHARITIES. OF THE 17 GAMES PLAYED THEY WON 12, LOST 2 AND DREW 3, INCLUDING THE ABANDONED GAME AT KUALA LUMPUR.

South China were given a great reception wherever they went and their matches were at- tended by larger crowds than in previous tours. The reason was, principally, that the public wanted to see the South China team which had brought off the Hong Kong “Double”—winning First Division of the League and the Senior Shield without the services of a number of their former star players.

Lee Wai-tong was top-scorer of the tour and his outstanding game was against United Services in Perak, when South China won by 11 clear goals, of which Lee scored seven, Everything went well for Lee in that game. The passes came nicely and he was; in great shooting form, scoring goals from 30 to 35 yards out.

He broke a new (7) net with one shot from 12 yards out!

Few would believe the net was new, but the officials were emphatic and included the cost

In Singapore the crowd was so large that in the Come first game, against Combined Singapore, the play- ers were not able to get to the ground and the officials in charge were afraid of opening the gates for fear of a rush. It was only with the assistance of the police, who had to use force at times, that the players were able to get in. In the game against Combined Services the players had to be
