EXTENSION DAYLIGHT RAIDS: ENERGETIC PRESSURE
(By Reuter's Air Correspondent)
R.A.F. daylight operations over North- ern France, and occasionally over Germany, are being pursued with the utmost energy. Full advantage is being taken of Germany's pre-occupation in Russia. This generaf assurance was given me in London yesterday.
Their tactical purpose cannot be divulg- ed but it can be assumed they are immediate- ly associated with the growing R.A.F. night offensive.

Alm evidently is to reconcile the R.A.F. long-term policy of heavy bombing with any shorter range policy requiring extra punch dictated by the big chance given Britain by Hitler's Russian adventure,
Lack of sufficiency of long range fighter escorts for work across the English Channel must of necessity ut present restrict the depth of R.A.F. operations in force by daylight, as do the short summer nights force a shortening of the long arm of British air
power by night.
New Spitfires
But some encouraging facts have emerged from the sweeps hitherto made and incidentally begun in earnest on the eve of Hitler's attack on Russia,
The improved Spitfires have proved themselves superior în performance to Germany's latest Messerschmidt Aghters,
The M.E. 109F was specially designed to give maximum por- formance at high altitudes. Range and, to some extent, armament, were sacrificed to this aim, no doubt in the hope that the tactical advantage Ih height would be decisivo,
This has not been the case and
