THE ALLIED TROOPS WERE REPORTED IN CAIRO YESTERDAY TO BE NEARING THE GATES OF DAMASCUS, AND EVENTS ARE ALSO DEVELOPING FAVOURABLY TO THE ALLIES ON THE COAST, WHERE STEADY PROGRESS IS BEING MADE TOWARDS BEIRUT,
