I COMMENTED recently on the warmth of Mr. Churchill's welcome to General Sir George Jeffreys, the new M.P., who was once the Premier's C.O., writes an "Evening Standard” reporter. officer who was present at their first meeting now sends me an account of it in fuller detail than I have seen recorded.

The meeting was at "Ebenezer Farm," the trench map name for a cluster of dug-outs not far from Neuve Ridge, that was for long an advanced battalion headquarters.

In the winter of 1915-1918 Mr. Churchill decided to take his turn in the line, and, after reporting at G.HQ., was attached for in- struction to the 2nd Battalion of the Grenadlers, then commanded by Lieut.-Col. "Ma" Jeffreys.
