Battle Of
Portugal Into
Lisbon Makes Official Statement
THE BATTLE OF THE ATLANTIC HAS TURNED ATTENTION TO PORTUGAL AND, ALTHOUGH THE LISBON GOVERNMENT IS NOT UNDULY PERTURBED BY THE LATEST TURN OF THE INTERNATIONAL SITUATION, NORMAL PRECAUTIONS ARE BEING TAKEN FOR DEFENCE OF THE HOME FRONTIERS.
The communique issued on Thursday night, announcing the reinforcement of three Portuguese archipeligos "as an affirmation of Portuguese sovereignty," was, however, the first intimation to the public in Portugal that these islands have been mentioned in the United States Senate, it being the usual practice to suppress external references to Portugal.
