The United States and Canada have reached an agreement to exchange defence articles to speed hemisphere defence and aid Britain, says a joint statement issued by Pre- sident Roosevelt and Mr. Mackenzie King. Canad- ian Premier.
Lucer The framework "I the Lease and Lend Act. The United States Wit make available to England "component parts for the use of equipment and mumuons which Canada is producing fo Britain. which England will im- mediately relay to Canada.
During the coming year Canada. will endeavour to supply the US with $300,000 000 worth of de rence materials urgently requir ed by the United States for their cwn purpORES,"
Reaction To Greek War
Mr. Henry Morgen' hau and Me Harry Hopkins attended the Roo- nevelt-King conference.
IT IS UNOFFICIALLY PRE- DICTED IN WASHINGTON THAT THE BRITISH BALKAN NETBACKS WILL BRING A SPEEDY INCREASE OF AMERI- CAN AID TO BRITAIN.
It is reliably learned that leals were stunned by the wiftness of the German advance Brilish und that calculations of needs were upset.
It is unders'ood that various sources confidently assured Pre- sident Roosevelt two weeks ago that the combined British, Greek and Yugoslav armies were more than sufficient to check the Ital- ians and Germans for at least four months.
It is emphasised, however, that the United States Government is still confident of the ultimate suc- cess and survival of the British Empire, which, it is pointed out, is intact though battered.-Inter- national News Service.
SPLIT FINGER WHILE INJECTING HORSE, DIED
While injecting tetanus toxin into a horse, a laboratory assis- tant accidentally split the index finger of his left hand, and died five days later.
During the injection the needle slipped, and while replacing this the man's finger was injured,
This was stated at a Tunbridge Wells inquest on Alfred Leslie Lay, aged thirty-four, of Fair- lawne Stables, Shipbourne, Kent, employed at the Wellcome Re- search Laboratories.
A verdict of Death by misadven- ture was recorded,
