TAKES TSUI INTO FINAL Brilliant Service And Constant Forecourt Attack H. D. Rumjahn's Great Effort PORTUGAL FAVOURED

To Win In Straight Sets

By "Adrem”

REVEALING NO WEAKNESS IN AN ENTERPRISING DISPLAY, TSUI YAN-PUI YESTERDAY ENTERED THE FINAL OF THE COLONY SINGLES TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP WHEN HE BEAT VETERAN H. D. RUMJAHN 6-8, 6-4, 7-5 AND 6-4 ON STAND COURT OF HONG KONG CRICKET CLUB.

Rumjahn earned the sympathy of the crowd by his plucky display. Throughout three sets, he fought every point bitterly and only in the fourth set, although there were occasions when he pulled out spectacular recovery-shots, did he ever give the impression of having accepted defeat.

Feature of the match was the brilliant serving of the winner and I think that it was this factor as much as anything that brought about the final re- I cannot recall Tsui serving a single double- sult fauit. It was a remarkable fact that in the fourth set, when he might have been expected to be tired, he was serving better than when he started and br aced the weary Rumjalin times without number.

THE INTERNATIONAL SOFTBALL series takes

on a faster tempo as the contest runs into the semi- finals this week. The Portuguese contingent take on the Stars and Stripes at 12 noon, to spotlight to- morrow's three-game programme, whilst India, by virtue of their narrow victory over the Canadians fast week, meet the Chinese at 10.45 a.m.

Strengthened by the Collegian keystone pair, the Portuguese squad can look forward to their game through rose-coloured glasses. Hurler Gerry Gosano should be able to hold down the U.S. bruis- ing batters, if he can give a repeat performance of his three-hit chucking against the British contin- gent last Sabbath, when even Dave Leonard, the Bambino himself, couldn't get the ball out of the infield And don't think the vitriol-tongued bar- hers let him get away with it lightly either!
