Following is to-day's Tennis

Championship programme:

Open Singlóne

A: Crnwford) vz George Chon (4); 1 M. A Razack v. S. A. Rum- Jahn (6) M. Págh v, H. D. Rúm- Jahn (8).

Club: Handicap::Singles:

V1 R. Gardonk (~-3/8) v. R. E. Cfüest (15,3) (7); H. Van Leeuwen

(26) on H J. Armstrong (153) v. G. W) Sewell (4/6) or H. C. D Knight (-2/6) (6).

It is probable that Tsui Wai-puij having taken the measure of his opponent in the first three gamesy, did not: take matters thereafter as seriously as he might have done, but nevertheless there were num erous occasions when Ip executed well- planned Oxlade (5/6) (2); T. A. Pearce coups with the finesse of a veteran.

GOLF STARTING TIMES

There were several glaring shortcomings in his game and at the outset he was obviously ner- vous, while at crucial moments he was apt to make foolish errors, but these lapses can be attributed to lack of experience which time should do much to eradicate,

Fine Forehand

Ip's forehand drive was his most profitable stroke yesterday. Hit cross-court into his opponent's forehand corner, it was a "difficult shot to return and at no time was Tsui able to deal with it with his usual confidence. His sliced drive down the sideline was also a good shot, the ball running away after hitting the ground and keeping very low. On the backhand he showed a definite weakness and was quite unable to attack on this Swing.

Definitely maintaining promise of his earlier match against Ho Ka-lau, Ip is with- out doubt the most promising newcomer to the tournament for many seasons—this year' is the first time he has appeared. Tsui's game is

very much the same as it was last year. He made his usual quota of inexplicable errors and, when he so desired, the inevitable winner.
