complimented on her pluck at the inquest.
It was stated that the child was in bed with her parents when her father, in a fit of jeal. ously, attacked her mother with
razor.
When the child was dragged out of the room by a sister, the man cut his wife's throat and then committed suicide.
The girl was Betty Bounds, of Jenkins Road. Plaistow, E. The Inquest was on her parents. Ri- chard Bounds, forty-nine-year- old platelayer, and Eugene Flore- ce Boundis, also aged forty-nine. Mrs. Bounds, It was stated, joined the A.R.P. service against her husband's wishes. He suspect- ed her of having formed an as- sociation with a fireman named Fred.
The three daughters of the couple, including Betty, told of quarrels because of their mother's A.R.P. work, and said that on one ccasion the police had been called to the house because of their father's threats.
"Have Mercy"
Betty said that since she return- ed from evacuation in Somerset. she had slept in the same bed as her father and mother. Usually she slept in the middle, but on this told her to get night her father against the wall, Her mother made her get back again.
"During the night father climbed over me and knelt on mother's chest," she said. "He got his hands on her throat.
"My mother shouted, "Have mercy, don't be mad,' but my father would not leave "go," I grabbed his hand and tried to drag him away from mother, but could not do so, so I shouted for my sisters."
Belty said she did not see any- thing in her father's hand, but her Angers were cut with what
she thought was a knife.
The coroner called, Betty to him and commended her for her action and for the way in which she gave her evidence.
The verdict was that Bounds murdered his wife by cutting her throat with a razor and then com- mitted suicide while the balance of his mind was disturbed.
