Employing more work- it ever has be- ers than fore, the United States Steel Corporation is pro- ducing a much greater amount of steel for arms production than during the first World War, says the "New York Herald- Tribune."
Mr. Irving Olds, the chairman, announced this in the 30th annual report.
The Corporation is running its mills at a rate equalling about 90 per cent of theoretical capacity.
Mr. Olds said the Corporation was sending large quantities steel to Great Britain.-Router.

ISSUES

Answering a Commons question regarding the facilities allowed to Bri- tish shipping at Chinese coastal ports in Japanese occupation, the Foreign Under-Secretary said:
"At Shanghai, there is no inter- ference with British shipping.
At Tientsin, the situation is gen- erally speaking satisfactory.
At Chefoo, conditions are on the whole worse than in 1937, but there has been no discrimination for the past 18 months, in which period working conditions have remained the same.
At Tsingtao, additional wharves are still available and improved conditions continue, but the berths allotted third power shipping are very exposed and have inadequate godown accommodation so that some delay is being experienced by British shipping.
At Canton, weekly sailings under agreement with the Japanese are at present suspended by mutual "greement, but negotiations are still proceeding.-British Wireless.
