Matsuoka Rebound

IT IS THOUGHT IN WASH- INGTON THAT THIS FIRST MAJOR DIPLOMATIC DEFEAT FOR HITLER WILL BE OF ENORMOUS IMPORTANCE ELSEWHERE THAN IN THE BALKANS.

It is thought in Washington, for instance, that Hitler demand- ed the signature by Yugoslavia of the Axis Pact when he did in order to impress Mr. Matsuka and to induce Japan to enter the

war.

Political circles in Washing- Lon are of opinion that the Russian support of Turkey, plus the Yugoslav revolt, will, with the fighting spirit of the Greek and British troops In the Balkans, present an array of strength in the Balkane! formidable enough to make Hitler pause before launching a large-scale offensivo.

In addition, the change in the Yugoslav situation will prove a fatal blow to the. Italian forces In Albania!--Reuter.
