A NEW VICTIM?

The latest phase of the impending storm in the Balkans is the appar- ent success reported to- day of the Nazi at- tempt at coercing Yugo- *slavia. Plans for a drive through Bulgaria have apparently been altered. The risk of Turkish in- tervention or Russian dis- pleasure makes Hitler hesitate. He has accord- ingly summoned the Yugoslav Premier and Foreign Minister to Berlin to discuss the possibility of a "blitz" move from another direction. Or it may be just a strategic retreat from his real in- tentions to keep the world guessing and to prolong the war of nerves. The last significant visit of a Yugoslav Premier to Germany was that of Dr. Stoyadinovitch in 1938. His government stood for drifting away from country's close ties with France and a strong trend towards Italy, and later towards Germany, which had built up a dominant position in Yugoslavia's foreign trade.
