COL. BINGHAM RELIEVED SEAMAN
OF COMMAND
LT.-COL. R. C. BINGHAM, who, in a letter which appeared in the “Times” on Jan. 15, criticised officers of the new Army drawn from the middle, lower middle, and working classes, has been re- lieved of his command of the 168th Officer Cadet Training Unit.
This was announced in the House of Commons by Capt. Margesson, Secretary for War.
Col. Lingham, at his home in Evelyn Gardens, South Kensing- ton, declined to be interviewed, but sent the following brief and pointed statement to a reporter:
An officer is not allowed to open his mouth. Unfortunately, I did so, and am paying for it. It is the privilege of an officer to be shot at without answering back.
