day that the big new battleship "North Carolina" will be fully commissioned on April 11 in New York.

The first new battle- ship since 1923, the "North Carolina" is 35,000 tons and car- ries nine 16-inch guns. -International News Service.

CHINESE BARTER AGREEMENT

Total amount involved in the agreement is said to be several hundred million dollars, and is a record figure in Sino-Bovlet trade relationa.

All goods concerned in the agreement must be handed over to the respective parties before the end of the year.

The paper hails the agreement as further proof of increased So- viet assistance to China-Reuter.

A British destroyer was des- patched to Mirs Bay at 7 pm. last night following a battle between No. 1 Police Laufich and a party of pirates who are believed to belong to the same gang which ransacked Ping Chou Island on Thurs: day.

The Police launch arrived at Talpo at 12.30 pm. to-day with three pirate junks in tow, the pirates having, made good their escape after run- ning their boats ashore..

The police found 72" rifle bullets in the captured junks.
