The husband, Mr. Milbourne Silvester, of Pre- bend Gardens, Stamford Brook, W., now sixty-nine, who had given up his position as manager of licens- ed premises and devoted himself to his wealthy wife, applied to Mr. Justice Farwell in the Chancery Divi- sion under the Inheritance (Family Provision) Act, 1938, to increase the amount to £5 a week.
Mr. A. H. Droop, for Mr. Silves- ter, said he was forty-two when he married nearly twenty-seven years ago. He lived on amicable terms with his wife at Langdale Gardens, Hove, until her death las February.
Mrs. Silvestor had no servant and the husband gave up his oc- cupation to devote himself to her.
He did all the housework and attended to her during se. veral illnesses, she refusing to have a nurse.

"First On Record"
This, however, was an excep. tional case, and in his view Mг. Silvester had reason to feel that his wife had not made proper provision for him.
He had devoted himself to his wife and now. at the age
uf sixty-nine, he suddenly found himself with only £1 a wock and slight opportunities of ear- ning anything.
The Judge said he had come to the conclusion that it was a case in which the Court ought to make some reasonable provision for the husband beyond this small sum, and he directed that Mr. Silvester should have an additional £3 a week, making in all £4 a week, free of duty.
A barrister told a reporter that there was no record of a similar application having been made in the English courts.
