MARSHAL PETAIN REJECTS NAZI DEMANDS
BOMBS DROPPED IN ULSTER
The dropping of bombs in Northern Ireland was announced in an official statement by the North- ern Ireland Ministry of! Public Security yester- day.
The statement says: "On se- veral occasions during the past week enemy aircraft have been identified operating over Nor- thern Ireland.
"Bombs have been dropped, all of which fell in open country. No damage was caused and there were no casualties."--Reuter.
MANCHESTER CASUALTIES
NOT GREAT
The number of fatal casualties in the raid
on Manchester on Sunday night is com- paratively small in view of the severity of the attack, it was stated in London last night, says Reuter.
WASTES OF FLAME SPREAD OVER MANNHEIM AREA
SPREADING WASTES OF FLAME WERE SEEN BY R.A.F. PILOTS AFTER DROPPING THEIR BOMBS IN SUNDAY NIGHT'S RAID ON MANNHEIM.
Most damage was done in the neighbour- hood of the main railway station and on the Ludwigshaven side of the Rhine.
The raid was the seventh on. Mannheim since the beginning of December..
It is already known from sources other than reports of British pilots that great damage was done in carlier raids, which were by no means the most se-
vere,
The Rhine harbour was hit| and barges sunk, and it is re- vealed that the traffic which help give Mannheim, ito' post- tion as the most important`in-' 'dustrial centre in south-weat Germany was ceriously im- peded.
Mannheim is also a vital.rail-
way Junction, and traffic to France had to be diverted to another and less satisfactory line-Reuter.

That this is more than a mere phrase is indicated by the recent activity of General Huntziger, Minister of War, who has just in- spected France's armistice army and the French fleet at Toulon and in North Africa.
General Weygand and Genor. al Bergeret, Minister' for Alm have completed visits to all chlof centres in France's African co- lonies and in Byrla.
