HEAVY RAID

ON ITALIAN AIR BASE

A. LARGE NUMBER of enemy aircraft on the ground at Benina, in the Western Desert, were at- tacked by the R.A.F., declared the Air Ministry news service in London yesterday.

Two $79 three-engined Italian bombers were destroyed and two others severely damaged. Bombs fell among other aircraft.

Enemy troops and motor tran- sport on the Méterma-Gondan road, in Italian East Africa, were machine-gunned and bombed.

Four direct hits were register- ed on motor transport and heavy. casualties were observed as a re- sult of machine-gunning.

A similar attack was made on an enemy encampment at Wadi Arades, and Motema was also bombed,

Further south a successful rald was made on a large camp at Gub- ba, where direct hits on barracks started numerous fires.
