CHINESE MARATHON SUCCESS

The first International mara- thon race run in Kowloon yes- terday, over a distance of about

84 miles, was won by an ab- solute unknown to the distance racing world of Hong Kong Lei Yuk-fung, a 22-year-old athlete from Swatow, who finish- ed a few yards-ahead of Karam Bux, the H.K.S.R.A. champion.

Fazal Illahi, another Indian Tunner, was third, with Pte. Manson, the Royal Scots runner, fourth. It was a close race all the way.

There were two entries also in the women's section, the winner of this race, Miss Liu Shui-lan, finishing the 4-mile course for ladies in under 30 minutes, with Miss Wong Man-shang second.

In the first ten were five In- dians, three Chinese and two Europeans. There were a num- ber of other European and In- dlan entries, but they did

not place among the next ton finish.
