DISCONTENT IN JUNIOR SOFTBALL LEAGUE BATTLE Threats Of Withdrawal If No Improvement GIANTS Umpires Question********
Again Arises
By "Grandstand”
“AS A RESULT of the disorganised manner in which Second Division games have been supervised, several teams have voiced their discontent, and I have heard whispers of the intended withdrawal of support from the League, should this state of affairs remain unchanged.
For instance, last week, the V.R.C.-8th Battery R.A. game was umpired by reserves of one of the playing teams. On top of this, bases, which form part of the necessary equipment for the game, were not provided, pieces of paper having to suffice for bases, whilst the home plate was in the form of an old straw hat.
Surely the teams which have raid fees to join the League are entitled to more consideration.
The lackadaisical attitude of the umpires, lies, not so much with the Association, as with the team managers, as I understand that there is an arrangement whereby the managers are responsible for seeing that umpires nominated from their clubs the scheduled time.

It is admitted that the two cases are not parallel, since the junior softball games are played quite a few miles away from the more interesting senior games at Chat ham Road, where the majority of unoccupied players will be found. Still, it's worth a trial.
New Grounds Wanted
In order to relieve the conges. tion in Junior League games, it is understood that the League man- agement is investigating the pos-

It took the umpire some time to figure it out.
