Their Best
NE of the favourite songs of the last war was "Goodbye Madame Fashion." sung by Miss Teddie Gerard, whom I'pause to salute across the years.
The song, in bidding Madame Fashion goodbye, said that wo- men had work to do, that girls must sew and mow, that vanity bags must go, and that the peeka- boo blouse that would frighten. the cows must, go in the bottom drawer.
Women are once again sewing and mowing, and driving cars and nursing; all are in uniform, and yery attractive they look, especial- ly those who for the duration have joined the Navy and the R.A.F.
But after a time the mere male wishes-unpatriotically perhaps
--that
the uniforms. were not. quite so uniform. Variety is the spice of life even in wartime. You can have too much of a good thing.
Accordingly there is an added obligation on the women who have not donned uniforms-which does does not mean that many of them are not contributing as much to the national, effort as their sisters -to keep the femining flag fly- ing for the sake of both sexes.
