Soviet Moves In Shanghai; Archives Seized

The action is the first Soviet attempt to take control of Eston- jan affairs in Shanghai. Previous- ly efforts were made to control Estonians, Latvians and Lithuan- ians but it is understood no pro- gress was made with the Eston- jans.
Of 140 Estonians in Shanghai it is understood that only two
or three acknowledge allegiance
to the Soviet.

CHINESE RETAKE GATEWAY TO YANGTSE

An Air Ministry and Ministry of Home Security communique issued at 8,45 last night states: "Only raids. on this country during the day have been made by a very small number of single aircraft.
Bombs were dropped .on one place in South-East Scot- land during the morning and .South- at a few places in East- England during the
afternoon.
In one town in Hampshire a few houses were damaged and there were some--causal- ties. Elsewhere little damage and few casualties were caused."-British Wireless.
