"RAPIER" REVIEWS DOUBLE TENTH RACE MEETING · (Continued From Page 14) fore going up the incline, Mr. Black sent Sapper forward with great burst of speed; and this naturally took quite a good deal of energy out of the pony, Lan- cashire Chips was still lending on coming into the straight, but it was soon passed by Far View:

then from ne outside came Sap- ber, but it had to catch up far too huch lost ground; and, although t managed to beat Lancashire! Chips. Sanver had to admit defeat, hough with another few lengths to

o the result might very well have been different.

Easy For Favourite

The sixth race, the Yunnan Handicap (second section); over He two mile post distance, provid ed a rather tame finishi, with Victoria (Mr. Pih) securing its irst win so far. On the previous ccasion when it started, Victoria was well-backed-and-lost, but in his race punters made pretty well ure that they had their money in the right pony, with the re- ult that it commanded no less han 2,489 tickets for a win. There s noining much over which one ould feel enthusiastic over this ace, as once Victoria got in front went on to win without any pposition whatever. Mr. Needa rled hard on Galveston Bay, but ven then it was actually three engths behind Blue Gate (Mr. Chao) for third position.

Mr. Wei's Hard Riding

In comparison, the finish of the eventh race, the Hunan Handi- ap (second section) over 11⁄4 hiles, was quite exciting. Here gain the betting public made the ight choice, as the ultimate win- er carried no less than 2,407 ckets to win. Jack O'Lantern Mr. Barrow) made the running Earlier on, but the result was bought out between Piet Hein! Mr. Wel) and Bressay · (Mr. earne), with Gold Coin (Mr. Hang) making an unavailing ffort. Piet Hein and Bressay vere at it hammer and tongs right p to the last 50 yards, but with supreme effort Mr. Wei got his ount ahead by half a length.

Belated Start

The last tans of the day, the tatoomba Handicap for "C" Class ustralian ponies over the two- ile post distance, was good to ratch, but the finish did not pro- de a keen struggle. Had Piccadil- Jim not suffered from a belated art, in which it lost much valua- e ground, it would have made e finish more Interesting With veral ponies bunched together, was difficult to see which one as actually leading, but it was oticed that before rounding the nd Shuttlecock (Mr. Hearne) hd gone up 'with a sharp burst. oming into the straight it was ill ghead, and it looked as if it as going to win; but Brown

erby (Mr. Black), coming up on e outside, fought gamely on, and owly but surely it overhauled huttlecock and went on to win 14 longths, with Piccadilly m taking third place.
