COFFEE STALLS IN FAVOUR

Street coffee stalls, which were a feature of London: night life before the war where all classes met in the early hours of the morning for plain and wholesome refreshment, have been called upon by the Minister of Food to play their part in the emergency feeding of Londoners affected by German air attacks.

Lord Woolton has asked coffee stalls proprietors who had gone out of business to come into existence again. He wished them to provide food for people in air| caid shelters and said the Minis- try would be glád to secure petrol and supplies of food for them and arrange which shelters. to go to while protection would be given against air raid risk.

ENEMY AIR ACTIVITY over Britain had three phases yesterday and these ventures cost them four 'planes one in Surrey near Redhill which is believed to be the same ma-| chine which machine-gunned a train in a south-east London station, and three in Poole, Dorset, where a large formation of German 'planes was routed by fighters.

Guns in north-west, south-west and cen- tral London fired on a solitary raider which lost no time in making off. Bombs were drop- ped in a south-east London area during the afternoon's alert.

An Air Ministry communique says the enemy made several abortive attacks on the South of England.
