GERMAN SHORTAGE OF LUBRICATING OIL: EXPERT VIEW

A BRITISH OIL EXPERT from Rumania point- ed out in the "Yorkshire Post" yesterday that Ger- many is facing a serious shortage of lubricating oil which is the weakest point of all her war supplies.

Ninety per cent of-her imports from across the Atlantic are now cut off. Small quantities from Russia are extremely poor in quality and none ar- rives from Rumania.

Oil in captured German planes, was of such poor quality that the Royal Air 'Force would never dream of using it.

Fifty per cent. of Rumanian pe- trol is now freed for delivery to Germany but is not sent owing to transport difficulties.

Germany's lack of gasolene and lubricants is confirmed by the special correspondent of the New York "Herald-Tribune" who points out that since Hitler's cam- paign in the west, Russia is growing to fear Germany and has virtually stopped sending oil to Germany.

Asserting that Far Eastern questions are eagerly discussed in Berlin, although the Reich is concentrating her efforts on crushing Britain, the correspon- dent says German opinion claims Germany should have special rights over the Far Eastern pos- sessions of the "vanquished" European powers, but the ques- tion is whether Germany will have sufficient surplus energy to deal with Far Eastern questions "after the conclusion of her war with Britain."
