Capacity House Watches Good Swimming At “Y”
LO YUK-WING BEST SWIMMER OF MEET

By "Natator"
OWING TO THE last minute withdrawal of the Army and Navy teams from the intended European "Y"/Army/> Navy Triangular Tournament on Saturday at the Y.M.C.A., the Lai Tsun and Ching Wing Unions of the Chinese “Y” consented to transform it into a European “Y”/Lai Tsun/- Ching Wing contest.
A capacity house witnessed some good swimming, and, as expected, Lai Tsun proved their supremacy by totalling 23 points, with the Ching Wing and the "Y” earning 16 and 13 points respectively.
Although the margin of victory for Lai Tsun seems convincing, Ching Wing came to within threatening dis- tance but had the misfortune to lose four valuable points, when they lost second place in the 150 yards medley relay through disqualification. Chan Wing-kai was the offender, taking off before the preceding swimmer finished.
Of the seven events, Lai Tsun won four, Ching Wing accounting for two. with "The "Y" contented themselves the diving event.
On the other hand, "Y" put up a very good performance, upsetting all secured by calculations. The lead

For the "Y", G. T. May was easily the most brilliant with his powerful team- technique; unfortunately, his mates did not give him ample support.
The surprise of the evening was caused when South China beat the hitherto undefeated Lai Tsun in . the 200 yards free style Invitation
Relay Race.

Taken by surprise, Shek Kam-pui of South China conceded á valuable lead to his opponents at the start, but managed to come out ahead of the pack at the end of the first lap. May, second man for the "Y", put in a de- termined effort and took the lead from Chan Cheung-tim. This was however short-lived as Tommy Kew found, no difficulty in regaining the lost ground, to finish leaving it to Lee Fook-ke with a terrific burst,

V.R.C. TEAM DEPLETED The much-depleted V.R.C. team, -with the absence of the Misses V. Churn, E. Grant and I: Lopes, did not fare very well, most of them finding difficulty in a fresh water pool. This was quite noticeable with Miss Gu- terrça and Miss Hutchinson, who slow ed down considerably in: their last few strokes, giving away valuable yards. Inexperience and bad timing in start- ing off also contributed to their de- feat. Jacqueline Anderson was most conspicuous with this fault, although she partially made up for it by swim- ming a good race.
