(SPECIAL TO “CHINA' MAIL")·

CHUNGKING, TO-DAY.

THE WATCHWORD THAT NO COMMENT SHOULD BE GIVEN TO EUROPEAN EVENTS, UNLESS THE FAR EAST IS DIRECTLY' CON- CERNED, WAS FULLY OBEYED YESTERDAY.

The press refrained from discussing the possibility of an ormistice in France. The chief subject of press commentaries was the alleged Japan-

ese

threat to British and French possessions in the Far East, particu- larly Indo-China.

The "China Times" says: "Japan may gamble her national fortune in an attempt to cut China's war of resistance but we must be prepared for the worst and overcome all obstacles."

The paper concludes by saying that the only way for China is to continue fighting until a just and honourable peace can be secured.-Havas.
