The voluntary withdrawal of British, French and Italian troops and warships from China is requested by the Nanking "government" in the form of a statement is- sued by its Ministry of For- eign Affairs, states a report from Nanking.
The request was made "to maintain peace and order and also to protect the lives and property of Chinese in areas where the troops and warships of the European belligerents are sta- tioned."
It is stressed that the withdrawal is urged to prevent "unexpected ́even- tualities."
The declaration was approved by Wang Ching-wei and other Nanking leaders.
The statement also announced that the Nanking “government" would not recognise the transfer by a bel- ligerent power of rights and Inter- ests In China-to the government of any other nation.
It declared: "The national govern- ment will take effective measures to annul such transfers, which would be an insult to the sovereignty of China and liable to cause conflicts."- Reuter.
