JUNK CREW CHARGED AT SESSIONS

SIX MEMBERS OF A FISHING JUNK NO 938HC. WERE THIS MORNING ARRAIGNED BEFORE MR. E. HS WILLIAMS AT THE SUPREME COURT CHARGED WITH PARTICIPATING IN A ROBBERY ON A TRADING JUNK A FEW MILES OFF WAGLAN ON JANUARY 27.

LANTAU MURDER CHARGE

At the Supreme Court this morning before the Chief Justice, Sir Atholl MacGregor, Chan Ting-sing I was charged with the murder of Ng Wan, a young boy, in the early hours of December 1 in an unnumbered hut in Sam Wat Village, Lantau.

Mr. J. P. Murphy, crown counsel, conducted the prosecution while ac cused was represented by Mr. H. W. Lee instructed by Messrs. Woo and Woo.

The jury was composed of Messrs. S. F. Chubb (foreman), R. F. Leder- hofe, N. Spence, F. Ng, D. G. G. Allen, C. J. Abdulhusain and J. Remedios.

Mr. Murphy said accused was one of two men who entered an unnumber-

ed hut in Sam Wat village with the intention of committing a robbery, The hut was occupied by deceased, his mother and a sister.

During the night the mother felt someone tucking at her blanket but thought it was one of the children who had rolled over. Later she got up and stepped on someone who caught her by the throat, attacked her and struck her on the head. She cried for help and her son, deceased, ran out of the hut. He was struck on the head out- side the hut and he died from the in- juries thus sustained. The sister and mother also sustained injuries and were admitted to the hospital.

The defence is a denial of the of- fence.

The case is proceeding.

PICKPOCKET CAUGHT AT THE RACES

A 40-year-old Shanghai Chinese Luk Yuen-sang, was sentenced to six months' hard labour, by Mr. H. G. Sheldon, K.C., this morning, for steal- ing a gold watch at the Race Course on Saturday.

a race, when he discovered his watch was missing. He caught hold of defendant who next to him, and a policeman found the watch in defendant's right hand.

Defendant was also recommended for banishment.

Accused were represented by Mr. Percy Chen, instructed by Mr. A.'S. K. Lau, while the case for the Crown was conducted by Mr. Reynolds.

The jury was composed of Messrs. B. J. Elwood (foreman), Wong Fat- fou, Pan Dze, Lee Chuek-lan; Ng Gam- hong, O. Sadick and Wong Tak-kwong. The accused were:--Ng Lai, Man Ngan-chi, Shiu-lau, Chan Chi, Shin Ngau-mul, and Cheung Sap-yee.

Mr. Reynolds said that first accused was the helmsman and the other mem-. bers of the crew of a fishing junk.

On January 27. a. trad- Ing junk loaded with oranges, copper coins and shark's fins was bound for Hong Kong. Some miles off the San Min Custom station the junk was attacked by Japanese. The rudder and sails were thrown overboard and part overboard. The junk was left to drift of the cargo taken away or thrown helplessly.
