Opening League Matches Should Provide Good Tussles H.K.C.C. Expected To Extend Champions

RECREIO'S STRENGTH; WELL-BALANCED TEAM

By "Adrem"

ITH the prolonged week-end we have just had, it has not been possible to obtain all the selections for to-day's opening League tennis matches but from such knowledge of the teams as is available, it is fairly certain that there will 'be some excellent games.

In an article on “B” Division prospects last week, I was unable to discuss the Hong Kong Cricket Club team for the simple reason that I had no idea what it would be. It is now to hand, and an impressive line-up it is!

South China, despite their fine record of last season and the fact that they have much the same players, will have H. K. C. C. as their first op- ponents and, if they win this after- noon, they will definitely have to be considered a power in the land.

Number one pair for Club will be that seasoned combination of T. J.

Gould and T. C. Monaghan. This pair

met with considerable

season and if they continue to play together in the "B" they should prove one of the most difficult pairs in this division to beat.

MUCH EXPECTED OF GROSE AND ANDERSON

Civil Service, with two pairs in the Agafuroff brothers and Bendall and Skinner, are expected to do well against K. C. C., who finished in the first three last year,

Much will depend on the form shown by F. Grose and Donald Anderson, the home team's first, string.

latter being unable to play, E. Zulauf, a new recruit, should not in any way weaken the team.

Their second string, on paper, is also strong, it being Jimmie Ferguson and R. G. Beisel. RECREIO'S

STRENGTH

Recreio have out an extremely use- ful-looking side and in view of their line-up for to-day, they must also be considered for the championship, ⚫Oliveira and Reed should be just the stolid types of players who are most -difficult to beat over a single set, while Bertie Gosano and Albert Rodrigues are another pair with a lot of experience behind.

On paper L. A. Carvalho and F. J. Remedios are well up to the standard of the other two pairs, but it must be remembered that the latter has been out of the game for the best part of -two years and his form. this after-

noon will be problematical.

K.C.C. TENNIS PRACTICE

An extensive mixed doubles tennis practice was held at Kowloon Cricket Club yesterday when the following pairs were seen in action: E. C. Fincher and Mrs. Williams; E. F. Fincher and Mrs. Kevan; A. E. P. Guest and Miss M. Stokes; G. C. Burnett and Miss B. Harker; A. Crawford and Mrs. Stur- geon; S. A. Gray and Mrs. Sweeney; G. A. White and Mrs. Smeby; W. M. Gillard and Mrs. Knight and Mrs. Fowler; J. Sturgeon and J. Kevan and] Mrs. White.

Following teams were selected yes- terday evening for the opening matches on Friday
