(SPECIAL TO "CHINA MAIL “)
BELGRADE, TO-DAY.
IT CANNOT BE DOUBTED THAT GERMANY HAS ALREADY TAKEN MEASURES TO EVENTUAL- LY IMPOSE ON YUGO-SLAVIA THE FATE OF NORWAY BUT THE SITUATION ON THE SOUTH-EASTERN FRONTIER OF THE REICH IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.
The Yugo-Slavian authorities are aware of a pro- bable attack and are maintaining vigilance, while the population and army are prepared to face any danger.
·
German manoeuvres preparing the ground for an eventual attack from inside were chiefly effected among the 500,000 strong German minority resi- ding in the country. Gestapo agents have enlisted among members of the minority organisation and gauleiter for several districts have already been ap- pointed.
DOUBLE ATTACK FEARED
Orders are transmitted by Reich- swehr agents visiting the country under the guise of tourists.
Observers are of opinion that an Italian attempt to annex Yugo-Slavia's Adriatic coast would find Germany invading Croatia and establishing a puppet government there.
Nevertheless the task would be ex- tremely difficult as all precautions have been taken.-Havas.

(SPECIAL TO "CHINA MAIL")
Paris, To-day.
"THE STRATEGICAL setback we have just suffered in the Trondheim region must not shake our faith in victory," declared M. Miellet, chairman of the army committee of the Chamber, in a broadcast speech yesterday.
"If the Allied High Command decid-
ed to abandon the attempts to dislodge the Germans from Trondheim, the military chiefs took their de- cision on technical reasons which we have no right to judge.
"We knew a far worse reverse. in 1914 but we defeated our enemy. The Norwegian battle will be a long and costly one and we must be prepared for all sacrifices.
