AIR LOSSES
Greatly Exceed Those Of The R.A.F

A CLOSE SCRUTINY of all available information shows that during the past four weeks German losses in aircraft greatly exceed those of Britain, despite the higher risks to which the R.A.F. and the Fleet Air Arm were inevitably exposed dur- ing the Norwegian campaign.

Mr. Hugh Dalton, speaking at^za Labour Party meeting at Cambridge last: night, expressed the view that: the events in Norway, which had lowered British prestige abroad, had shaken confidence ·at. home-not In the certainty of an ultimate Allied victory, of which he declared his renewed conviction, but in the direc- tive organisation and personnel of the country's war effort,
British losses on all fronts are shown to have totalled 48 machines; Germany, on the other hand, is computed to have lost for certain 138 planes, while as many as 97 others have been probably completely destroyed or put out of action for Lord Mayor's Red Cross Fund passed leaders, as so often before, have been
some time.
These figures are based on Air Ministry and Admiralty announce- ments, authoritative reports in the neutral and Norwegian press and news agency and newspaper despatches re- ceived in London.
To these figures must be added ma- chines destroyed on the ground or In the sea during British raids on Ger- man air bases in Norway, of which only the Germans know.
CLAIM DENIED
Meanwhile it is stated at the Air Ministry that two Sunderland flying- boats anchored off the coast of Nor- way on Sunday were damaged by ma- chinegun fire in an attack by German planes.
The German claim to have shot down two Bristol Blenheim bombers is described as quite untrue.--Reuter.
AEROPLANE PRODUCTION SPEED-UP

The start of an intensive campaign for speeding up the production of warplanes and the training of airmen is signalled by changes now an- nounced in the training of airmen and the appointment of a controller of light alloys by the Air Ministry.“
It is expected men will now be able to pass through the various training stages much more quickly.
The Empire air training scheme is being pressed forward, and in addi- tion arrangements, have now been made for training schools not only in France but in the French Empire. This will be a joint, effort, by the British, and French, Empires.
One of the difficulties of production hitherto has been connected with light alloys, production of which has had to be multiplied many times compared to peacetime requirements.
This has hitherto, been in the hands- of volunteer controllers, lacking cer- tain powers, and a fulltime controller with the necessary powers has now been appointed-Neuter.
