CUT IN U.S. COPPER EXPORTS
(SPECIAL TO "CHINA MAIL") LONDON, TO-DAY. PUBLICATION OF STATISTICS BY THE STATE DEPARTMENT IN | WASHINGTON, SHOWING A CON- SIDERABLE DROP IN COPPER EX- PORTS TO RUSSIA, HAS CAUSED CONSIDERABLE SATISFACTION IN ECONOMIC CIRCLES.
In January, the United States ex-
of ported to Vladivostok 26,000 tons copper while in March only 5,000 tons were exported.
It is concluded that Russia is con- cerned over the seizure of two of her vessels and has reduced the import of her copper rather than risk having ships subjected to the Allies contra- band control.
The Washington statistics revealed that American exports to Russia of tin and rubber have completely ceased, probably for the same reason.-Havas.

This reply, while not making any concrete proposals, indicated the gen- eral attitude of the Soviet Govern- ment.
It was being given the most careful consideration by the departments con- cerned with a view to discovering any way in which a trade agreement could be reached taking into account the war situation-Reuter.
