TO-DAY'S 'FUNNY' STORY Chungking Rats And The Publicity Board

'Patriotic In Their Dietary Choice'

(SPECIAL TO "CHINA. MAIL")'

Chungking, To-day. HOW CHUNGKING'S RATS, one of the capital's plagues, turned patriotic and joined the common anti-Japanese front, is recounted in a special bulletin released by the China Information Committee. Members of the publicity board, it reads, "were about to mo- bilise the office coolies in a concerted endeavour to kill the dozens of big rats which haunt the office," but it goes on: "To-day, however, there was a very definite shift in the attitude towards rats for these little ani- mals, it was shown, are not only intelligent but patrio- tic in their dietary choice.

It had now been decided to make important extensions to ex- isting facilities.
