SHOOTING INCIDENT IN SHEUNGSHUI

A Chinese detective shot and seriously wounded a motor-lorry driver in Sheung- shui District, New Terri-

tories, yesterday afternoon.

The detective has been taken into custody by his superiors pending fur- ther Investigations while the driver is lying in a serious condition in the Kowloon Hospital.

It is learned that the driver was involved in a fight with the owner of two large baskets one of which was run over by the motor-lorry. The detective is alleged to have attempted to part the two men, and to have drawn and fired his revolver after the driver had snatched away his electric torch.

BRIBE CHARGE AGAINST P.W.D. MEN

Public Works Department foremen were before, Mr. T. J. Hous- ton this morning, charged with ob- taining a bribe of $20 each from Chu Lam at Pokfulam Reservoir yesterday. Mr. M. A. da Silva pleaded not guilty on their behalf.

Defendants were remanded, on bail of $1,000 each.

Det. Sub-Inspector O'Donovan is in charge of the case.

MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE

At the request of Chief. Detective. Inspector A. E. Carey, Mr. Q. A. A. Macfadyen at Kowloon this morning remanded three junk people for three days on a charge of manslaughter of Chong Kwai on Tuesday.

They are Fung Han, 28, seaman, of cargo boat, No. 440V, Wong Kuen- shiu, 26, master, of cargo boat, No. 3734V and Lo Kan, 25, seaman, of Kwong Sam launch.

OF A WOMAN

Failing to appear at Central Magis- tracy this morning, a 31-year-old woman, Chan Ying-ling, had bail of $100 estreated by Mr. R. Edwards. She was charged with giving false information to the Police alleging that she had been robbed of $1,250 in National Currency.
