IN PERSPECTIVE

Paris, To-day. THE PREMIER, M. PAUL REYNAUD, speaking in the Chamber of Deputies yesterday on the Scan- dinavian operations, said 22 ships were at the bottom of the ocean, of which 18 were German and four British; no French vessels were lost. Mr. Reynaud declared Germany's initial tactical suc- cess had proved an immense strategical blunder. The iron ore route was and would remain cut for Germany.

The British Navy had lost four destroyers and the German navy four cruisers, representing one- tenth of its total fleet, one submarine, one des- troyer and 12 troopċtransports.

"Germany, who will need steel to attack us, now presents us with the picture of a sortie by a beleaguered garrison.

"After leaping on Denmark sho hurled herself at Norway, believing. she would not meet more-resistanco than from Austria in 1988.

Instead,

she met with the resistance of Bel- glum in 1914."

At this point the rose and applauded.
