CRICKET NOTES
POLICE FAVOURED FOR JUNIOR CRICKET TITLE
MATTHEWS' FINE
EFFORT AGAINST
CLUB DE RECREIO
(By "ADREM”)
FOLLOWING NO FEWER than three blank Saturday's, Cricket resumed on Saturday with a League match in either division. Little interest remained in the First Division match but in Second Division, I.R.C. won one of their two remaining fixtures to take the head of the table.
On Sunday, however, Police, for
whom B. C. Fay turned out for the first time this season, also secured a win at the expense of R.A.F. and are now joint leaders.
As matters now stand I am in- clined to favour Police for the title. provided Fay plays in their last match against Craigengower, on Saturday.
They have proved to be fairly well- LAWN BOWLS
balanced, although their batting has -not always been too reliable.
At the moment, Recreio, with a game in hand, are one point behind I.R.C. and Police but they have yet to play I.R.C, and the greatly-improved Army -team. It seems rather a tall order for them to secure maximum points from both these matches,
A draw between I.R.C. and Recreio will leave Police and Recreio with 16 points with a match in hand and all will then depend on Recreio's match with Army, and the Police match with Craigengower. A most interesting ..situation.

The first meeting of the council of Hong Kong Lawn Bowls Association was held yesterday, presided over by Sir Atholl MacGregor, the vice presi. dent.
As 28 teams had entered for the different divisions of the League it was decided that the first and second division consist of 10 teams and the third of eight. Kowloon Cricket Club and Civil Service Cricket Club Juniors are to be promoted to second division. The question of the nomination of Interport sub-committees was defer- red to a future date.
There was never very much doubt ..on Saturday that I.R.C. would win.
V. Chittenden, Sir Atholl MacGre→ Lawrence and Stone made a great ef-gor and B. E. Maughen were appoint- -fort for the Civil Servants but Abbas was in deadly form and C.S.C.C. were ..all out for 95.
Abbas, in performing the hat- trick, was the first bowler to ac complish the feat in either division of the League and is to be heartily congratulated.
I.R.C. knocked off the runs for the loss of only three wickets, K. M. Rum- jahn batting soundly for 51 not out.
As a result of Recreio fooling around somewhat with their batting order, they were tumbled out for only 99 by the lowly-placed University. L. G.

THE REST TEAM
the
average golfer fails in his efforts to get the ball off the ground when playing from the rough. All too often the ball will dart for- ward along the ground, rolling a few yards and stop. Possibly this is due to the stance and the swing.
Provided the golfer follows a certain procedure in executing this shot there is every reason to look for success. For instance let the golfer hold his hands slightly ahead of the ball at ad- dress, opening the clubface and the clubhead will return to the ball in this fashion. The open face, increasing the loff, will raise the ball. An upright swing such as illustrated above, is best for this shot. The clubface will travel a minimum distance through the grass and contact the ball at a sharper angle.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF The Rest team to meet the Champions on Saturday provided one or two shocks. It is of course recognised that this team is rarely representative of the best players among the rest of the League but never- theless it is usually composed of the best players from each club.
