Diplomatic Activity

Swiss correspondents in Berlin are the opinion that the problem of subject of the Brenner Pass conversa- South-Eastern Europe was the main

tions.

It is pointed out that for the

past few days there has been considerable diplomatic activity between Rome, Balkan capitals, as Berlin and the well as Ankara and Moscow.

The "Basler Nachrichten" is of the opinion that the Duce-Fuehrer inter- a joint view will merely result in declaration of special guarantees to some Balkan states.

Italian Silence Meanwhile Mussolini and Ciano ar- rived in Rome last night at 11.45 p.m., amid popular enthusiasm.

While in conference with Hitler, II with Duce kept in constant touch Rome and perhaps with other. Euro- pean capitals as well, since his train. had several telephone connections.

most mute The Italian press is about the talks but large space is devoted to French and British reac- two tions and suggestions that the dictators discussed a "peace offensive."

Italian correspondents in Lon- don and Parls are of the opinion that such attempts do not have any serious chance of success, can- sidering the feeling evidenced In Britain and France..
