Mr. E. H. Williams, who prosecut- ed, said that accused went to shop in Ewo Street and tendered a five dollar note for the purchase of a packet of cigarettes worth 10 cents. He was taken to the Police station. Before he was charged he was given an opportunity by the police to prove his respectability and gave the name of a friend but on enquiries it

was found that the friend had left the ad- dress given more than a year ago and that he (accused), had not been seen at the address since that day.
