Muslim Leader's Appeal To The American People THE INDIAN PROBLEM

JAPAN AND ALLY TRADE MEASURES

Tokyo, To-day.

Despite continued negotia- tions "between the Japanese Ambassador in Paris, Mr. Renzo Sawada, and the Quaix d'Orsay, the French authorities have so far shown no intention of renewing the trade agreement between the two countries, according to Japanese reports.

Japanese business circles point out that France has been striving hard to draw closer to Britain in economic relations and to regulate the Anglo- French economic system on a bloc basis. In trade relations, France is said to be endeavouring with Britain to establish self-supply and self-suf- ficiency for Home and Colonies.

TEXTILES BARRED

The same circles further point out that Britain and France are restrict-

ing imports into the Franco-British economic bloc as far as possible and have imposed a licence system on imports to British Congo and French Morroco, allegedly violating the trea- ties.

Japanese cotton textiles, it is stat- from ed are virtually being barred these parts of Africa.

The French

it is added, intend to Government, strengthen the restrictions of Imports In order to conserve raw materials for the sake of the munition industry.
