MR. MALCOLM MACDONALD, Secretary for the Colonies, broadcast to the Empire last evening in reply to Hitler's bombastic New Year message to the Nazi Party in which he declared the Ger- man battle was being waged against "the old powers of a decaying world."
Mr. Macdonald said, inter alia, that anyone wishing to learn the quality of Britain's strength must look not only at this island but beyond to all the corners of the earth where people were associat- ed in happy union under the British Crown.

U.S. MAY SUPPLY ALLIES WITH 1,000 PLANES A MONTH
Washington, To-day. ALLIED PURCHASING AGENTS in the United States are rapidly negotiating orders for war- planes for 1940 and 1941.
The result is expected to be a flow of planes, parti- cularly bombers, across the Atlantic, more than offsetting Germany's reputed air superiority.
