GERMAN GENERALS WANT INVASION OF HOLLAND

Amsterdam, To-day.

ON NEW YEAR'S EVE the newspapers in Germany all re- echoed Hitler's message to the Nazi Party, declaring that 1940 will be a year of decisions. All the Nazi newspapers claim Germany can achieve her aims, though they admit the task will not be easy.

it is learned from a Finnish source that Germany has decided to resUMO trade relations with Finland.

When the war between Finland and Russia began, Germany suspended the trade negotiations which were pro- ceeding and stopped all exports and aft payments for goods received from Finland.

-It is now stated that the Reich has abruptly resumed negotiations and that normal trade will start next week. Reuter.

RESOLUTION OF FRANCE

Paris, To-day.

Both Houses of Parliament unanimously adopted the whole of the civil budget for 1940.

M. Paul Reynaud, the Finance Min- ister, said: "Once more the Chamber has given a unanimous vote.

Talk of peace has receded to the background, and all speeches and articles emphasise that a decision can only be attained by arms.

According to neutral sources bitter discussions are proceeding behind the scenes in the Nazi war

councils on how to attain a decisive result.

CHANNEL PORTS OBJECTIVE?

Four generals are said to favour an Invasion of Holland in the Spring.

If such an invasion were successful it is surmised that Flushing would be seized' and an attempt perhaps made to drive down the coast to Calais.

Opponents of the scheme say it is a council of despair and such a risk must only be taken if the war is re- garded as otherwise inevitably lost.

WATCH ON SOVIET

In the meantime Soviet activities are being closely watched In Ger-

many.

Many Germans doubt whether Hitler will attempt a decisive step until the Baltic situation is clarified.
