Shanghai, To-day. The shortage of rice is still seriously felt here, although a remedy appears to be in sight.
Twenty thousand bags of Saigon rice are expected to-day, and a further 60,000 bags at the beginning of next week.
The authorities, in co-operation with the Rice Guild, are making all efforts to prevent and punish hoarding and speculation.-Havas.

In November, France bought $32,- 149,000 worth of arms, chiefly aero- planes.
EUROPEAN'S DEATH MYSTERY
Stephen Michael Tracey, aged 30, who resided in an apartment house at No. 134, Austin Road, was found dead last night at 8.35 p.m.
The body was later removed to the Kowloon Mortuary and a post mortem will be held.
It is learned that Tracey had not been out of doors since Christmas.
Yesterday at about 2 p.m., he re- ceived two visitors, and when the boy brought his tea at about 4 p.m. he was pale and ill.
The police were later called and Trracey was found to be dead.
Death is suspected to be due some form of poisoning.
